Music Director Responsibilities
DJs:
Making sure there are competent djs. (Competent djs are those who can meet the requirements listed under
"dj duties" approved by the club.)
Making sure the djs have some means of turning on
and off the lights as required.
Reviewing the performance of djs and providing them
feedback. The music coordinator is responsible for making sure djs have completed the required training or retraining
(providing that they have not been meeting the requirements). The music director
is thus responsible for assuring that the djs are
properly trained, but does not have to participate in the complete training
of djs as that is done mainly through an internship
process.
Coordinating the scheduling of competent djs for
all of the dances. This does not mean assigning dates that djs must dj, but rather
assuring that there will be a dj for any and all
dances hosted by the OBDC. The form that this takes may vary, but there
should be some means (that all djs have access to)
by that djs can sign up for what times they will dj. This list should be kept in the master dj folder (see dj duties)to be kept with the cart or in the closet.
The coordinator is ultimately responsible for assuring that there is music at
all dances. This does not require the coordinator to be present at all
dances, but the coordinator should check with the scheduled dj at least an hour before
the main dance activity begins (lesson, dance (if no lesson), demonstration).
The coordinator is ultimately responsible for there being a dj, though djs should do their
best to find a replacement themselves and should contact the coordinator only
if they are unable to secure a replacement.
The Music Director schedules DJ meetings and keeps track
of attendance at the meetings to ensure the DJs are meeting requirements
Music:
Database:
The music coordinator is responsible for providing the opportunity for all
approved music (decided by at least three djs) to
be played at a dance. Approved music includes both the music that has been
added to the music database and the cds owned by
the club (provided that the music on them has not been added to the
electronic database). Any and all music that has not been collected from the cd collection should be reviewed (by at least three djs) and added. All music that is not added should be
recorded in a location available to all djs and to
the club president so that we know what it includes.
The coordinator is responsible for making the entire database capable of
being reviewed by both the djs and club
officers. The coordinator should be involved as much as reasonably
possible in the review of music and selection thereof.
The coordinator is responsible for the backing up and security of the clubs'
music collection. This means the cds should be kept
in a secure location (if in the closet, in a lock box that is not easily
removable) and the electronic database should be backed up at least once a
term (three months).
The Music Director must give the club an electriconic hard copy of the database.
Equipment and programs:
The coordinator is responsible for making sure djs
are aware of how to use all equipment, programs, and procedures related to
the playing of music for club dances. She or he is responsible for overseeing
(not necessarily performing) the maintenance of equipment and programs. This
includes, but is not limited to, maintaining the functionality of the cart
(filling tires, fixing loose screws, wiring, and electrical equipment),
updating/replacing equipment, assuring the functionality of programs used.
The coordinator is responsible for making sure the djs
have a competently functioning program by which to access and play the club's
electronic database. A competently functioning program is defined as one that
can access the entire database and all information in it, play all the songs
in the database, does not regularly crash (more than once a term) or
otherwise render the music system inoperable for any length of time, and has
a trouble shooting guide.
Additional miscellaneous duties:
The coordination of the transportation of the music playing equipment to the
location of the dance. It does not require the coordinator to provide the
transportation-only to assure that it gets transported.
The Music Director is required to train a replacement.
