What is Environmental Racism?

Poor communities, who have the smallest portion of America ’s wealth, suffer the brunt of the country’s pollution and waste.  People of color often make up these communities.  This is, essentially, the problem of environmental racism.

The Environmental Justice (EJ) Movement has responded to this problem by empowering individuals and communities to gain access to their right to be involved in environmental policy making and enforcement.

The Coalition Against Environmental Racism (CAER) is a student coalition at the University of Oregon .  We are an organization bringing together graduate and undergraduate students to provide a forum to address environmental racism.
We have two main goals: to educate the community about the connection between environmental problems and social inequalities; and to bring activists together in order to combine efforts in the struggle for environmental justice.
