Jennifer Rosen
Diversity and curriculum
Short Term Goals
-
Advertise a sample of courses in various departments each term in one or
more of the following ways:
-
Create an insert to be added into the Schedule of Classes each term
-
Ad in the Emerald prior to the first registration date
-
A web site with a link from the University’s main homepage
-
Fliers that would be sent to all students prior to registration as well
as being posted at various sites around the campus
I will also work to find a home for these in order to make funding them
possible
-
Add two questions to the general course/professor evaluations. One question
would evaluate the professor’s commitment to actively engaging all students
equally during class discussions. The other question would evaluate the
curriculum’s commitment to offering a broad view of the information presented
throughout the course.
-
[Not yet fully formulated]
Creating a comprehensive outline of a course committed to issues of social
identity, social and cultural diversity, and societal manifestations of
oppression. I will include a sample syllabus, a resource list, and some
teaching issues.
Long Term Goals
** Getting a course such as the one described above part of the
University’s curriculum and eventually making it a required course. Also
to find a home for such a course.
** Working on an outline of a questionnaire that would take inventory
of each department’s courses and evaluate their commitment to diversity
issues. I envision this as something occurring every few years and facilitating
inter-departmental dialog.
