College. What do you want from these four years? You want to make some friends, learn some skills, have what it takes to get a job once you're outof here and also have some fun? Welcome to the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, the ASUO. We're your student government and we want your college career to be a dynamic, inspiring and empowering four years. Your time at the U of O can be so much more than just what you wiill learn in the classroom. Now is the time to get involved and make your college experience something remarkable.
Imagine yourself white water rafting, lobbying in Salem to save Financial Aid, organizing a concert, taking swing dance lessons, holding a rally for endangered species, playing in an Ultimate Frisbee tournament, making your own ceramic dishes on the potters wheel, runnung for a student government position, or being a DJ for campus radio. The ASUO has a variety of stundent programs ranging from the Multicultural center to the Women's Center.
In The ASUO Executive Office, our goal is to make student's lives better. We fight for the rights of students here on campus, in the State Legislature, and even in Washington, DC.. This fall we registered 3,500 students to vote and educated students about canidates and turned out folks to the polls on election day. In winter we will hold a Book Swap to save students money on books and this spring we will lobby in Salem to freeze touition and raise what we pay our faculty. ASUO has so many possibilities raning from accounting to public relations, from increasing the night life on campus to increasing the diversity on camus. You can intern or volunteer in our office and even earn cource credit. Whatever level of involvement you want, we have an oppertunity for you.
Don't let these years slip by and be mediocre. Find your niche and get involved in something bigger. Stop by the ASUO office, Suite 4 in the breezeway of the EMU and check out all there is to do. We are here to help you make your time at the University of Oregon years that you will never forget. Welcome to the University and welcome to the ASUO. We hope to see you soon.
