Mission The Black Student Union (BSU) sponsors cultural and social activities that serve the entire University of Oregon (U of O) community. Through these events, the BSU provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, a stimulating learning environment, and cultural awareness. In hopes of abolishing stereotypes concerning people of color. In order to maintain strength and continuity, the BSU strives to reach out to various communities to support and promote minority empowerment. The Black Student Union welcomes participation and comments from all interested students and organizations. Our work is in effort to bring cultural awareness to the University of Oregon and the surrounding communities. We work to provide a safe space socially, mentally, and spiritually for students of color, yet specifically those who are of African descent.
Goals The primary goal of the Black Student Union (BSU) is to support students of African descent on the campus of University of Oregon. Through the promotion of academic achievement and sponsorship of cultural activities, the BSU seeks to build and maintain community spirit among the University's African-American population and enhance the cultural development of the University community as a whole.

Legal Compliance Statement: The Black Student Union (BSU), to the best of our knowledge, operates within all state and federal guidelines established for fee funded groups and uses incidental fees for permissible purposes in compliance with the 1985 Oregon Attorney General's opinion [44 Op. Attorney General 448 (1985)].
What We Do The Black Student Union (BSU) works to fulfill its goal by means of extensive programming and outreach to the University of Oregon community and the city of Eugene as a whole. We work on as needed basis with the community by volunteering our experiences, knowledge, and work within the black community empowering both the community and ourselves.
