| Q) What was the infamous "Cal
Chicken Incident?" A) The
infamous chicken night happened during the home opener in 1997 vs CAL. An excited UO
home crowd got a little too excited supporting the Ducks. With the CAL coach constantly
yelling at the referee, some fans decided to quite him down by throwing pieces of raw
chicken at the CAL bench. This with the combination of what the coach felt was obviously
poor officiating led to the coach throwing a tirade on the bench. Taking all of the
sticks, water bottles and anything else that was not bolted down and throwing it on the
ice. Needless to say he was thrown out of the game, living the athletic trainer to finish
coaching an eventual CAL loss. This helped pave the way to the security seen at games
today.
Q) What is the Ducks Ice Hockey Annual Friends and Family Drive?
A) At the beginning of each season the Ducks make a
donation drive to raise funds to be able to afford the expenses for the upcoming season.
The team relies heavily on these funds. Without these funds, the Ducks would face
financial troubles. The Ducks receive no funding from the Athletic Department, therefore
any contributions made to the AD does not reach the UO Ice Hockey team. If you want
to be a part of the Ducks Friend and Family Drive, please contact us! 541-346-3912 e-mail:
