A Deconstruction of ADHD Treatment and Research: hyperactive kids, wealthy drug companies, and animal research at UO by Lucas Spiegel We've all heard about kids with ADHD (also called ADD), and it's most common medication Ritalin, so many times that most of us probably assume that it's a well established disorder, or even a disease, with clear biochemical, physiological, environmental, genetic, or otherwise scientifically proven causes. At least some of us also assume that Ritalin, and other drugs used for ADHD, simply correct whatever chemical imbalance is present and makes kids normal again. A small inquiry into the subject shows that all of these assumptions are false, and a reassessment of the entire premiss of ADHD as a mental illness is in order. Full Story...
