Location:
Len Casanova Athletic Center

Thank you to all who attended the 2003 Oregon Strength & Conditioning Association State Clinic.  Hopefully a great time was had by all.

The day got off to a great start as Dr. Pat O'Shea, Jimmy Radcliffe & Tom Grace were recognized for their contributions to strength & conditioning in the state of Oregon.  Each was recognized by the Oregon Strength & Conditioning Association with the Pioneer Achievement Award presented by Randy Miller, NSCA state director for Oregon.

A full day of talks and demonstrations followed. Greg Bradley-Popovich got things started as he shared the latest research findings regarding protein intake for athletes.  Tony Murczek was next with an interesting perspective on developing the athlete utilizing the "soft" approaches of mind body training such as yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi.  Afterwards Jim Jacobs, Strength & Conditioning Coach at Portland State University took the group into the Moshofsky Center here at the University of Oregon to go over a wide variety of drills using weighted sleds.  Jeremy Pick, Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Oregon finished up the morning session with a discussion about weight room testing and evaluations.

Following lunch in the Pittman Room of the Casanova Center, Geoff Ginther, Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Oregon showed the group how easy it is to make some of your own equipment as well as an array of drills with each item.  Andy Dendas, Strength & Conditioning Coach from Oregon State University was up next as he talked about trunk stability for the athlete.  Gregory Lekas kept things going as he went over balance progressions for the lower body.  Tommy Boyer-Kendrick finished the day up with an introduction to training with unique implements such as kettle bells and thick bars.

Next years clinic is already in the planning stages.  Hope to see you then.
