Forget what you know or have heard about fraternities. What you learn, the people you meet, and the brothers you make for life in Kappa Sigma can open important doors to your future success. We encourage every freshman to consider rushing and pledging Kappa Sigma. As any member can tell you, their experience in the Fraternity has been the highlight of their college career. If you come into the rushing process with an open mind there is no limit to where it can take you. We pledge deserving young men year round, with an emphasis on summer and fall rush. If you pledge Kappa Sigma during the summer, you are welcome to move directly into the chapter house.
We will have a number of rush events during the summer and early fall term, so if you are interested in rushing Kappa Sig or know anyone that is, please get in touch with one of the following people:

Rush Chair: Chris Swanson (503)-514-4896

If you have what it takes to be a good student, a socialite, and a potential prodigy of success, the Kappa Sigma Gamma Alpha Chapter welcomes you to rush our house!

The brothers of Kappa Sigma take tremendous pride in our chapter house. One of our main focuses is maintaining and improving our living facility. With nearly 30 live-in members, considerable time and effort is put toward this task. In addition to everyday improvements and house projects, we perform work parties where the entire brotherhood gets involved in bettering the house.
Only one block off campus, our house is one of the closest fraternity houses to frequently used University classrooms. In addition, our facilities include: two decks, four fireplaces, largest and most versatile basement on campus, big screen TV, two pool tables, over thirty personal bedrooms, two large bath and shower facilities, ultra-fast Ethernet in every room, laundry facilities, dance floor, parking lot, full time cook, lighted basketball court, and horseshoe pits.
Single rooms for every brother provides them with privacy and insures academic success that places many brothers on the deans list. If you decide to pledge Kappa Sigma, there is a room waiting for you in the chapter house. Living in the house is a great experience, and one that really helps leadership and social development. We do require our members to live-in for six academic terms, so brothers usually move in early in their college career. If you pledge during the summer, it is possible to break your dorm contract until the day before classes, allowing you to move directly into the chapter house. We encourage all pledges to consider this option. If you think you're interested in moving in, remember, do not pick up your dorm room keys. You are welcome to come down and move directly into the house.

By becoming a Kappa Sigma you will obtain many life skills, such as: how to run a meeting, plan events, organize efficiently, manage a budget, motivate others and yourself, and general social skills that will be valuable to you throughout your career at the University and beyond. Fraternity men are undoubtedly more adept in business and social environments, especially those involving management.
There are a number of leadership positions within the house, 18 total, as well as leadership positions within the Interfraternity Council, the governing body of the fraternity system. The house is led by the five-member Executive Committee, which includes Grand Master (president), Grand Procurator (vice president), Grand Master of Ceremonies (ritual master), Grand Scribe (secretary), and Grand Treasurer. Beyond the Executive committee, positions include house manager, rush chair, social chair, scholarship chair, and intramural chair, to name a few. This involvement is great experience for your career and looks extremely appealing on one's resume. New members are encouraged to take involvement in the house by holding a position.
Did you know that since 1900 two thirds of the U.S. presidents have been members of a fraternity as well as 85 percent of supreme court justices since 1910. There are prominent Kappa Sigma's all over the country, including Gamma Alpha Chapter alumni Peter Jacobsen and Thomas Autzen, of which Autzen Stadium is named after. Also, Jimmy Buffet, Robert Redford, Ted Turner, Sam Donaldson, William Hewlett, Bob Dole, Edwin Hubble, 8 Congressmen, 3 Senators, 2 Governors, and 4 professional golfers are all members of Kappa Sigma.

With school being the number one priority of every student at the university, the fraternity can greatly assist the transition into a more intense academic environment. Brothers help you learn about the campus, provide advice on professors and classes, and help you study for important assignments and exams. As a freshman, the classes you will be taking have more than likely been taken by our members. It is nice to know that a brother is always around to offer his help and experience. During pledge quarter in the fall, pledges are required to attend study tables twice a week to ensure that they are keeping up with their studies.
Kappa Sigma has the largest scholarship fund of any national fraternity. The Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund awards over $130,000 each year to Brothers who excel in scholarship and leadership. Awards range from Certificates of merit to $250, $500, $1000, $2500 endowed named scholarships. Traditionally, Fraternity men have a much higher retention and graduation percentage.

We recognize that an active social life is a very important part of the college experience. At Kappa Sigma, we strive to achieve a healthy balance between work and play. It is important to be able to relax and enjoy oneself in the downtime between academic work. We feel that in order to become fully endowed in life, one must experience the social, scholarly, and high-minded measures that our fraternity provides its members. In addition to our annual house trips to Sunriver (winter) and Lake Shasta (spring), there are numerous other social functions put on by our chapter and by sororities that our members attend. Our house, especially our basement, provides a great place for social activities. Being a Kappa Sigma gives you the opportunity to meet hundreds of other women and men in a relaxed social environment. Our members are known all over campus and respected as upstanding members of the University community.

Kappa Sigs are well known on campus and in the community for our philanthropic and community service efforts. Every year we donate numerous hours of our time to the city of Eugene; our way of giving back to the community. Kappa Sig also holds philanthropy events every year. In the fall we will participate in "Game Ball Run" with the Oregon State chapter of Kappa Sigma, where we run a game ball between Corvallis and Eugene before the annual Civil War football game. During the spring term we hold a powder puff football competition, where every sorority forms a team for a flag football tournament. Needless to say, the event is a great time for everybody and provides for some great laughs.
These events raise thousands of dollars for charitable organizations such as the American Cancer Society. Kappa Sigma's are also very involved in University activities. We have strong participation in intramural sports, winning several titles year to year. Also members are involved in the Interfraternity Council, organizations such as campus recycling, club sports, and the campus newspaper, of which one of our members is editor-in-chief.
