OREGON 4-PEATS AS PNCLL CHAMPIONS

Tacoma, WA- The Ducks stormed into Tacoma intent on keeping the league trophy in Eugene for one more year.  Oregon was pitted against the Boise State Broncos in their first game, a team that has improved by leaps and bounds over the season.  The Broncos played the upset role in the first minutes, scoring the first goal of the game and keeping it very tight in the opening quarter.  The Ducks took the Broncos best punches early and recovered nicely with a strong finish to the game, outpacing Boise State thanks to a lethal combination of Scott Miller at the face-off and Oregon attack’s solid play.

The following day saw the Ducks matched up against perennial PNCLL powerhouse Simon Fraser.  The Ducks have had recent success against the Clan in the past few meetings but SFU was coming off a convincing win over Oregon State and was looking to steal the PNCLL automatic bid to the national tournament.  With the championship trophy going to the victor, both teams came out ready to fight for the title.  Simon Fraser managed to score first but the Ducks scored early and often, taking the drama out of the game before the final quarter.  The Ducks were able to get all players valuable playoff experience over the weekend.  Junior Attack Josh Schane was awarded MVP of the PNCLL Tournament after the game. After the final horn, Oregon’s senior class was able to celebrate the end of their PNCLL career by being crowned champions for an impressive 4th straight time.  When these seniors arrived in Eugene, the team had never hoisted the trophy.  The tradition they have built over the past four years has given the Ducks an ability to truly compete at an elite national level.

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND SCORES:

2The Ducks were represented very well on the PNCLL All-Star Team with 11 players recognized for their play in the conference.  In an impressive feat, Oregon swept the MVP awards.  Junior Attack Josh Schane was also awarded MVP of the PNCLL Tournament.  These following Duck’s were recognized with All-Conference honors:

UP NEXT:  NATIONALS in Frisco, Texas

Frisco, TX – The third seeded Oregon Ducks (17-2) will start out their National Tournament run this Tuesday afternoon at 1PM in the heat of Frisco, TX.  Facing off against the Ducks will be the Lindenwood Lions of St. Charles, Missouri.  The Lions (9-5) enter the tournament as the 14th seeded team, having just won their conference (GRLC) championship.  The two teams met for the first time at last year’s National Tournament in a scrappy consolation game in which the Lions came out on top of a close game.  This year the game will count and both teams will be ready.

Oregon is no strangers to the national tournament with their 2007 being their postseason berth. 2004 was the Ducks first trip to nationals, then held in St. Louis, and they were bright eyed newcomers on the tournament scene. After a rousing win over Boston College, the Ducks were shot down by a great UC-Santa Barbara squad.  In 2005, the Oregon Ducks beat the Arizona Wildcats in the first round and then lost to the University of Michigan in the second.  Last year, the Ducks faced the Wildcats in another first round battle that ended in a heartbreaking loss in the blistering heat.  The defeat came as a surprise to the squad, who had their sights on the title game.  Taking that into consideration, the Ducks will enter this tournament having three years of experience under their belts, prepared for anything that the Texas heat has to offer, and hopefully ready to embark on the road to a national title.

Ducks face Broncos in PNCLL Semi-finals on Saturday

RECAP: Weekend of April 14

Spokane, WA- The Oregon Ducks finished off their PNCLL regular season with a bang.  Facing off against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday, April 14th, the Ducks slowly got the fire started after a long drive to Spokane and eventually took over in the second quarter, winning the game 18 to 4.  Eleven different Ducks put points on the board.  Leading the pack was senior Ryan Warren with 4 goals and 1 assist.  Junior attack Josh Schane also put in 4 goals, and Julian Coffman had 2 goals and 2 assists.

FINAL SCORE: Oregon 18, Gonzaga 4

Moscow, ID- The Ducks then took on the University of Idaho Vandals the next day in Moscow.  Sophomore Ben Harvey started the game in goal and led a solid defensive effort in the first half.  Following Harvey, freshmen Ben Finger saw time in the cage and finished with 7 saves.  Finger was awarded the game ball for his stellar play.  Sixteen Ducks scored points during the game, including seven freshmen.  Senior attack Julian Coffman finished with a total of 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists).  Freshmen Chad Loescher and Austin Loranger each finished with 3 points apiece. The progress of the University of Idaho program was clearly apparent over the weekend, as they welcomed the Ducks to Moscow and put up a good fight, with goalie Robert Wulff standing strong in the cage.

FINAL SCORE: Oregon 18, Idaho 5

THIS WEEKEND:  THE PNCLL PLAYOFFS

Tacoma, WA – The Ducks travel up I-5 to Tacoma to defend their PNCLL crown this weekend.  Oregon’s senior class is looking to cap their collegiate careers with a 4th straight PNCLL championship.  Because Oregon went undefeated in conference play, the Ducks secured the #1 seed and will face off against the PNCLL’s new up-and-coming team, the #4 seed Boise State Broncos.  The Broncos and Ducks last played on March 17th in Bend, Oregon, with the Ducks leaving victorious.  The other semi-final match-up puts #3 Oregon State against #2 Simon Fraser.  Winners of both games will go head-to-head in the PNCLL Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm.

RECAP: OREGON VS. CHAPMAN

Lake Oswego, OR – In front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at Lakeridge High School last Friday night, the Oregon Ducks came out in full force.  From the very beginning of the game it was clear that the Ducks were ready to put their spring break troubles behind them.  The Ducks entered having lost two games previously while in Arizona two weeks ago.  Attack Julian Coffman and midfielder Ryan Warren paced the Oregon offense with 5 goals apiece.  Scott “Turtle” Miller had another big game at the face-off “X” with Chapman throwing everything they had at him all game long.  The Ducks led 11 to 2 at half and cruised to their 13th win of the season.

Final Score:  Oregon 18, Chapman 10

RECAP: OREGON VS. UTAH

Portland, OR – Following their win against Chapman, the Ducks came out tough again the next day against the University of Utah Utes.  The 13th ranked Utes entered the game hoping to make a case for a national tournament birth, but the Ducks asserted themselves from the start and came away with the victory.

An in-depth recap of Oregon’s victory over the Utah Utes can be found at CollegeLax.us.  The article, titled “Think Domination”, was written by Nathan Cordova and follows all the action from the game.

Final Score:  Oregon 16, Utah 7

THIS WEEKEND:

The Ducks head North to beautiful Spokane, WA this Friday for a game against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.  The Bulldogs (6-3) are looking to solidify a PNCLL playoff bid.  The following day, the Ducks take their first trip across the Idaho border to face-off against the University of Idaho Vandals (0-5) on Sunday at Noon.  The Vandal program continues to make strides under a dedicated coaching staff and looks to build towards future success in the PNCLL.

Ducks go 1-2 on the road, Look to bounce back this weekend

SPRING BREAK RECAP

Three close games over four days resulted in a 1-2 record for the Oregon Ducks who traveled to Arizona two weekends ago to face the University of Arizona, University of Colorado, and Arizona State.  In their first game, the Ducks came away with a win against the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, AZ on March 24th, but the Wildcats set a precedent for how tough the rest of the Ducks’ trip would be.

Next, Oregon faced Colorado in a defensive battle on Sunday, March 26th in Tempe, AZ.  Both teams came out with something to prove and played tough throughout the entire game.  However, the Buffaloes managed to score two goals in the last few minutes of the game and held off Oregon’s attempt at tying it up for overtime.

Following Sunday’s game, the Ducks faced a fearless Arizona State squad who punched in goal after goal to keep up with the Oregon offense throughout the game.  In another jaw-dropper, the Ducks let the Sun Devils get away from them in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, marking the second loss of the season and back-to-back losses for the struggling Oregon Ducks.

Point leaders over the weekend were Clay Knope with 6 goals and 1 assist against Arizona, Cody Aldrich and Knope with 2 goals apiece versus Colorado, and Julian Coffman with 4 goals and 1 assist against Arizona State.  Senior captain Ryan Warren also came up big against Arizona State with 1 goal and 4 assists.

FINAL SCORES:

Oregon 13, Arizona 12

Colorado 6, Oregon 5

Arizona State 18, Oregon 17

THIS WEEKEND:

The Ducks face two more tough match-ups in Portland, OR this weekend when they go head to head with the Chapman University Panthers on Friday and the University of Utah Utes on Saturday.  Chapman enters Friday’s game with a 6-6 record, coming off an 11 to 7 loss to the University of Colorado Buffaloes on Tuesday.  Utah is currently ranked #13 in the nation and takes on the #5 Buffaloes this Thursday at home before they make the trip to Portland.

After getting a few days off and a demanding string of practices this week, the Oregon Ducks will look to get back on track with a sweep over the Panthers and Utes this weekend.  The Ducks dropped to #3 in the latest Shamrock Lacrosse national poll after disappointing losses to Colorado and Arizona State.

Ducks handle Broncos, Travel to Arizona for Spring Break

RECAP: OREGON vs. BOISE STATE

1

Bend, OR – On a beautiful day in Central Oregon, the Ducks took on the Boise State Broncos last Saturday afternoon.  The lacrosse community in Bend has rapidly grown in recent years and the two teams faced off in front of a lively crowd of local supporters.  The Broncos began the game with early success, scoring 5 goals in the first half.  After coming out stagnant, the Duck defense pulled it together and held the Broncos scoreless in the second half.  Attack Josh Schane came up big for the Ducks with 5 goals, while freshman Austin Loranger had a breakout performance with 1 goal,1 assist, and solid play throughout the game.

The Ducks squad had the opportunity to meet many of Bend’s youth lacrosse players and fans after the game.  The team conducted an informal clinic and taught many of the basics to the large group of upcoming all-stars.  All of the Oregon players came away from the experience thoroughly impressed with the community’s excitement and support for the game.

FINAL SCORE:  Oregon 20, Boise State 5.

COMING UP:

This Friday the Ducks will fly southeast to Arizona for three very important match-ups.  First, on Saturday afternoon, Oregon will take on the University of Arizona Wildcats in Tucson.  The Wildcats are currently ranked #11 in the nation.  This will be the third time the two teams have met.  The previous two were at the national tournament in 2005 and 2006.  Oregon snagged the win in ’05, but Arizona came away with a close win last year in the Texas heat, knocking the Ducks out in the first round.

Following Saturday’s game, the Ducks will continue their tough road trip with a game against the #7 Colorado Buffalos.  The two teams will face-off on Monday afternoon at 1PM in Tempe.  Last year, the Buffalos had great success throughout their season and lost in a tight game against rival Colorado State for the national title.  The Ducks and Buffalos met two years ago in Michigan during spring break with Colorado coming out on top.
Finally, the Ducks will look to complete their spring break road trip when they take on #13 Arizona State.  This will be the first meeting between the two teams.  Arizona State is a top contender in their conference (WCLL) this year and will surely pose a challenge for the Oregon squad.

Oregon will look to continue their winning ways in Arizona with wins over these three tough teams.  All eyes will be on the Ducks to see if they can continue their unprecedented success this season.

Ducks Take Top Spot in National Poll

1After getting off to a 9-0 start this season, the Oregon Ducks were placed at the top yesterday in the most recent Shamrock Lacrosse MCLA Top 25 Poll.  The Ducks’ most significant wins during this nine game winning streak came at the expense of traditional league elites Colorado State, Sonoma State, and Brigham Young.  Colorado State and BYU were both ranked #1 when they played the Ducks, while Sonoma was 4th.  After playing the role of giant-killer week after week and surprising many in the league, the Ducks now can place a large bulls-eye on their back for the rest of the season.  This is the first time in program history that the Ducks have taken the #1 spot.  The progress that the team has made during recent years is a testament to the outstanding commitment from coaches, players, parents, fans, and alumni.  The success of this year’s team has been a long time coming for head coach Joe Kerwin and the Oregon coaching staff.  Through his constant leadership and dedication, Coach Kerwin has raised the bar for the Ducks and instilled a level of commitment in his players that mirrors any other top-notch MCLA lacrosse program. The rest of the 2007 season should be an exciting one for the Ducks.

On March 9th, Senior Midfielder Scott Miller was selected as the Talon Lacrosse Player of the Week.  An article written by Senior National Correspondent Tyler Kreitz was featured on CollegeLAX.  The article can be found here.  This was a much-deserved award for Miller, as he has been the backbone of the Oregon squad as a face-off specialist for the past four years.  Miller was a 3rd team All-American last year as well as a 1st team PNCLL All-Conference selection.

THIS WEEKEND:

Oregon vs. Boise State

This Saturday afternoon, the Oregon Ducks will travel to Bend, OR to meet up with the Boise State Broncos.  The Bend lacrosse community has grown significantly in the past year and the two teams will face off in front of what is sure to be an enthusiastic crowd.  Saturday’s game is a PNCLL conference match-up and the Broncos will look to initiate a run at the PNCLL playoffs with an upset win over the Ducks.

RECAP: OREGON vs. BYU
Belmont, CA – Last week, the Ducks traveled to California for a much-anticipated game against the BYU Cougars.  This was the Ducks’ first road game, allowing them the opportunity to don their new black uniforms in the sunny California weather.  Playing in front of many faithful fans and alumni who traveled to see the game, the strong play by Oregon’s defense headlined the day.  Facing a very deliberate BYU offense, the Oregon defenders were rock solid for 60 minutes and continually repelled the Cougars’ attacks at the cage.  The Duck’s offense got in gear as well, with midfielder Ryan Warren (2G, 1A) leading the way.

Despite the grind-it-out pace initiated by the Cougars, the Ducks built up a 6-3 lead after three quarters.  Attack Josh Schane provided the highlight play of the day with a spectacular goal when he juked two BYU defenders to the ground. The Cougars closed the gap during the 4th quarter by rattling off a series of shots to narrow the score to 8-7.  With just 10 seconds left in the game, senior defenseman Todd Jolly managed to strip Cougar attack Justin Hier, giving the Ducks their second victory over a #1 ranked team this season.

Final Score:  OREGON 8, BYU 7

RECAP: OREGON @ CHICO STATE
Chico, CA – The day after their huge win against BYU, the Ducks bussed north to the home of the Chico State Wildcats.  Focused and determined, the Ducks used their large bench to their advantage on another warm day.  The Oregon defense came to play again and limited the Wildcats to only 3 goals.  All three Duck Goalies tallied at least one save on the day, and the Oregon midfield played fast and physical to lead the team to victory.  The game ball for the day went to freshman attack Chad Loescher, whose strong play gave Oregon a much-needed spark.

Final Score:  OREGON 13, CHICO STATE 3

UP NEXT:

THE CIVIL WAR – Oregon vs. Oregon State

The Oregon and Oregon State squads will travel north up I-5 to Portland this Saturday for the lacrosse version of the Civil War.  The teams will look for bragging rights in a contest that will surely live up to its name.  The Beavers also traveled to Chico last weekend and faced Chico State the day after the Ducks.  Oregon State won 10 to 4, giving the Oregon schools a sweep of the Wildcats.  Oregon State has become a top contender in the PNCLL over the past few years.  Last year the two teams met in the PNCLL championship with the Ducks leaving victorious.  This year’s Beaver squad will look to upset the Ducks and make a case for a national ranking.  Meanwhile, the undefeated Ducks will look to capitalize off their unprecedented success and carry it over to conference play.

The entire city of Portland will be in the national lacrosse spotlight this weekend with the National Lacrosse League All-Star game in town.  The All-Star game will be held at the Rose Garden in Portland a few hours after The Civil War.  Oregon vs. Oregon State will take place at Lincoln High School in downtown Portland following a day of High School games.  All Portland lacrosse enthusiasts are invited to come join the Ducks for a day full of lacrosse fun! This weekend will surely be one to remember for the Oregon lacrosse community.

Ducks roll Rams, Seawolves; Break into top 3

RECAP: OREGON VS. COLORADO STATE
Eugene, OR – It happened.  The University of Oregon men’s lacrosse team got their ducks in a row last Friday night and finally played to their potential.  The Oregon squad turned up the burners against the perennial national champion CSU Rams and flocked together to bring home the biggest win in the history of their program.  The team scored early and often with #22 Clay Knope (3g 2a), #4 Bret Retallick (2g 3a), and #20 Ryan Warren (3g 1a) leading the way. The Duck’s controlled the pace of the game and dominated time of possession in the first half.  The Rams pushed hard the entire game and never let up, but the Oregon squad refused to miss a beat and the game was never in doubt.  The Ducks played exceptionally well in every facet of the game and proved to the nation that they belonged at the top.

Final Score: Oregon 19, Colorado State 6

RECAP: OREGON VS. SONOMA STATE
Eugene, OR – Round 2 of the big weekend and the Ducks came to play again.  Less than twenty-four hours after knocking #1 CSU off in their season debut, the Ducks managed to come together once again and claim victory over the Sonoma State University Seawolves. The Seawolves’ sharpshooters were no match for the stellar play of goalie Paul Swanson.  Swanson’s 16 saves allowed Oregon to control the lead consistently throughout the game.

Final Score: Oregon 13, Sonoma State 9

COMING UP NEXT:

OREGON vs. BYU
Belmont, CA – Oregon (6-0) continues to climb the polls and currently holds their highest national ranking ever.  The newest Shamrock Lacrosse MCLA Division A Top 25 Poll has the Ducks moving up from #8 to #3 after their two huge victories.  The Ducks will attempt to continue their streak when they take on the newly anointed #1 Brigham Young University this Friday.  This early season #1 vs. #3 match-up is sure to give opponents and fans alike a good idea of what to expect at the national tournament in May.  BYU will enter the game having just taken on Division 2 power Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday night.  Last week the Cougars, known for their impressive athletes and a tenacious offense, dominated then #6 UC-Santa Barbara with a 15-4 victory.  This will be the third year in a row that the Ducks have faced off against the Cougars, the first coming in consolation play after both teams lost in the 2005 National Tournament in Minnesota.  Last season the Ducks traveled to Provo and came away with a tough 13-5 loss.  There’s no doubt that both teams will come ready to play this Friday at 3PM in Belmont.

OREGON @ CHICO STATE
Chico, CA- On Saturday, the Oregon Ducks will continue their road trip and head to Chico to take on a familiar foe, the Chico State Wildcats. The two teams faced-off in October at the Oregon Fall Classic in a close game.  Chico enters the game with a 1-1 record this season and will aim to take down the visiting Ducks on their home turf.   This contest is slated to begin at 2PM on Saturday afternoon at Chico State University.

Ducks to host #1 Rams, #4 Seawolves this weekend

RECAP: OREGON VS. CALIFORNIA-BERKLEY

Eugene, OR – The Oregon Ducks came out with another victory on Friday night against a familiar Pac-10 foe.  However, because the Ducks and the Bears play in different MCLA conferences, this was a rare meeting between the two teams.  Battling rolling fog and sometimes limited visibility, both teams were slow out of the gate.  However, the Ducks got things together and ended up playing one of their best halves of lacrosse yet this season.  Lead by the stellar play of the Oregon attack, the Ducks blew the lid off this game in the 2nd quarter, pouring in seven goals and taking a commanding 10-2 lead into halftime.  One major storyline all game was the dominant play of Ducks face-off specialist, Scott Miller.  Miller was a difference maker in the game and gave the Ducks many offensive possessions.  Cal did not go away in the second half however, and fought the Ducks to a second half stalemate, each team scoring 4 goals.   Clayton Knope, Cody Aldrich, and Trevor Tesar ignited the Oregon offense, each tallying key goals. Final Score: Oregon 14- Cal 6

RECAP: OREGON VS. TEXAS STATE

Eugene, OR – Oregon faced off against the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday and again came away victorious.  The game featured scores from 19 Ducks and the second half was a prime opportunity for the Oregon reserves to get some valuable playing time.  Coach Joe Kerwin also managed to get all three of the Oregon goalies into the game and backups Ben Harvey and Ben Finger both took turns leading the Oregon defense.  Karma was with the Ducks during the game as Junior Josh Shane scored the 21st goal of the game on his 21st birthday.  Final Score: Oregon 24- Texas State 9

THIS WEEKEND:

This weekend the Oregon Ducks will look to dethrone two of the nation’s highest ranked competitors, marking possibly the biggest weekend of the season for the squad.  First up, this Friday night at 6PM, the Ducks will take on the defending 2006 National Champion Colorado State University.  This being their first contest of the season, the CSU Rams enter the game fresh and ready to defend their title.  The Rams consistently rank among the top 3 in the nation and start their season off with a #1 preseason ranking.

Immediately after battling the CSU Rams, the Ducks will have a quick turnaround to face the #4 team in the nation, Sonoma State University.  In what is quickly becoming a premier West Coast rivalry, both teams aim to legitimize their high national ranking and make a statement for their conference.  After a tight, sloppy game in the swamps of Rohnert Park, CA last year, the Ducks will get another shot at the Seawolves on their home field this Saturday at 4PM.  Oregon (4-0), has had a chance to see what they are capable of and looks to build off of early season success in these pivotal games this weekend.  As a rising program, the Ducks will aim to prove that they can play with the best the MCLA has to offer.

Ducks Dominate League Rivals, Host OOC Games Next Weekend

RECAP: OREGON VS. WASHINGTON

The Oregon Ducks opened 2007 the right way on Saturday with a terrific performance against the University of Washington.  Oregon came out firing in their white home jerseys and blew open the first quarter with an array of assisted goals right on the crease.  Leading the charge was sophomore attack Clayton Knope (5G 1A), who scored the bulk of his five goals in the first quarter, three of which were assisted by fellow attack Julian Coffman ( 3G 3A). Junior attack Josh Schane also had a banner day with four goals and one assist.

UW

The Ducks were able to control the ball and successfully disrupted the Husky ride for the majority of the game.  Leading 14-5 at halftime, Oregon was able to cycle through their entire roster. This allowed many Ducks to tally their first points with the program.  Newcomers Patrick McMurdo, Daichi Tanishima, Erik Lyneis, Justin Blackmore, and Kevin Bozada all made it to the scorebook with scores or assists.  Sophomore Goalie Benjamin Harvey also made his debut towards the end of the game and played well, tallying 4 saves.  Final Score: Oregon 23, UW 8.

RECAP: OREGON VS. SIMON FRASER

Sunday provided a great early season match up between longtime league rivals.  The Ducks took on the Simon Fraser University Clan on a sunny February day in Eugene.  Similar to the day before, Oregon came out blazing again and took control of the game from the starting whistle.  Scoring mostly on smart midrange shots, the Ducks picked apart the Clan’s early attempts at a zone defense and sprinted out to a 7-1 lead.  Leading the offense were a trio of seniors, Tesar (3G 3A), Coffman (3G 1A) and Warren (3G).

All game the entire defensive unit came to play against a crafty SFU offense.  Defensemen Todd Jolly, Alex Jonsson, and Andrew Vincent all stepped up to face the challenge.  This all despite both teams being flagged numerous times in a penalty ridden game.  Also headlining the day was the play of junior Goalie Paul Swanson (14 saves).  Faced with many man-down situations, Swanson was solid between the pipes all day in his first big challenge of the young season.  Final Score: Oregon 18, SFU 9.

SFU

LOOKING AHEAD

Next up, the Ducks prepare for a tough stretch of out of conference games.  Oregon hosts teams from California and Texas in addition to Oregon State, giving Eugene a jam packed lacrosse weekend. First, after a short week of practice, Oregon plays Cal at 8:00 this Friday under the lights.  Next, the Ducks face Texas State at 7:00 pm on Saturday in what should be an interesting match-up between the PNCLL and the Lone Star Alliance (LSA).  The Ducks hosted Texas, another LSA team, last year and look forward to their first meeting with the Bobcats from San Marcos, Texas.  Oregon will also play host to games between Cal, Texas State, and Oregon State throughout the weekend.

Ducks Ready for 2007 Home Opener

After a successful fall and preseason, the Ducks are ready to kick off the 2007 season with a bang.  Exhibition games against Oregon State and the Portland Lacrosse Club enabled the Ducks to become a closer unit and gain momentum heading into the regular season.  The Ducks now look to make a run at a 4th consecutive PNCLL title.

Headlining this year’s roster are two nationally recognized players from 2006: 2nd team All-American Julian Coffman (Attack) and 3rd team All-American Scott Miller (Specialist).  Accompanying them is an experienced group of returning players looking to step up and continue Oregon’s winning tradition. Talented new players from across the West and even Japan round out the Ducks’ deep roster.  Senior captains for the 2007 season are midfielders Ryan Warren and Trevor Tesar, along with senior defenseman Todd Jolly.

This weekend kicks off the regular season with two critical PNCLL conference games against the University of Washington Huskies and the Simon Fraser University Clan.  The Ducks enter the game ranked as preseason favorites in the PNCLL and #8 in the nation.

First, the Ducks host the Huskies in Eugene on Saturday in what should be a good test for each program.  The Ducks are looking to maintain their success in league games, and the Huskies are aiming to break into the top PNCLL ranks.

After battling the Huskies, the Ducks will take on league rival Simon Fraser this Sunday.  The Ducks and the Clan have met in the PNCLL championship 3 times in the past 4 years and this February clash is sure to have a playoff feel.

All games will be played on the Lacrosse Field located on the University of Oregon campus between historical Hayward Field and the University’s Tennis Center.  Directions to the field can be found at the team’s website, www.oregonlacrosse.org.  Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, couches, and recliners as seating is limited.

Ducks Gear-Up for the 2006 Oregon Fall Classic

The Oregon Ducks are back at it again.  After finishing last year's season with a disappointing first round loss at the National Tournament, the Ducks are already hard at work this fall.  This year's team includes 9 seniors, 11 juniors, 10 sophomores, and 13 freshmen.  With the loss of 8 seniors from last year, The PNCLL Champs look to newly selected captains Ryan Warren, Kyle Tolzman, Todd Jolly, and Trevor Tesar for core leadership.  All returning players have had plenty of game experience and many of the new freshmen enter the ranks with a number of honors listed after each of their names.

Oregon's first test comes on Saturday, October 21st, when the team will be split into two equal groups and compete in the Oregon Fall Classic.  The tournament includes Oregon, University of Montana, University of Washington, Chico State, Oregon State University, Linfield, and the Eugene Lacrosse Club.  Last year both Oregon teams made it to the championship game and Oregon White came out with the win.  However, this year the number of teams and the amount of competition has increased twofold and players are anticipating a much more difficult path to the championship.  A complete schedule of the tournament is attached.

All games will be played on the Lacrosse Field located on the University of Oregon campus between historical Hayward Field and the University's Tennis Center.  Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, couches, and recliners as seating is limited.  Directions to the field can be found at the team's website, www.oregonlacrosse.org.

In mid-November, the Ducks will travel to Northern California to face Sonoma State and Notre Dame de Namur.  Stayed tuned at www.oregonlacrosse.org for up-to-date information regarding these contests.

Ducks Three-peat, Head to National Tourney in Texas
First Up: Arizona

Everything seemed to come together for the Oregon Ducks as they rolled through the PNCLL Playoffs.  After getting off to a slow start against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday, the Ducks turned on the heat in the 3rd quarter and put in 8 goals.  The game ended 20 to 8 with the Ducks on top.  15 players from the Ducks squad scored including Sophomore LSM Darrin Loescher (#62) and 8 other underclassmen. Also on Saturday, the other side of the bracket filled in with Oregon State beating Simon Frasier University 16 to 7.  This marked for a relatively unique championship game on Sunday, as two teams from the State of Oregon would vie for the PNCLL title and an automatic bid to the National Tournament in Texas, May 8-13.  It would be a great day for lacrosse in the State of Oregon.

Both teams came out swinging and the intense rivalry was clearly apparent.  However, the Ducks were able to pound in 7 goals to the Beavers' 2 in just the first quarter alone.  The game ended 18-10 and every Oregon player saw time on the field.  Oregon Attackman Julian Coffman (#25 Jr.) lived up to his PNCLL Offensive Player of the Year award, announced the previous evening, and scored 5 goals and had 1 assist, while Midfielder Trevor Tesar (#14 Jr.) took home the Tournament MVP award after his 4 goal and 2 assist performance in the game.

Also announced over the weekend were the PNCLL All-Conference Awards. Coffman headlined the long list of Ducks award winners:

1st Team
Attack - Julian Coffman, Oregon
Midfield - Matt Connors, Oregon
Defense - Kyle Tolzman, Oregon
Face-off Specialist - Scott Miller, Oregon

2nd team
Midfield - Trevor Tesar, Oregon
Defense - Todd Jolly, Oregon
Goalie - Nate Cordova, Oregon

Honorable Mention
Midfield - Tamir Elterman, Oregon
Attack - Chris Nelson, Oregon

The Ducks will travel to Texas on Sunday for the USLMDIA National Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, May 8th.  They'll have time to adjust to the Lone Star State's heat with practice on Monday prior to their game at 1PM on Tuesday against the University of Arizona in Plano.  Going into the tournament, Oregon is ranked #9; Arizona is ranked #8 and coming off a loss to Sonoma State in the WCLL Championship.  The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to play the winner of #1 Colorado State vs. #16 Texas.
