The Oregon Alpha
chapter of Pi Beta Phi has long been one of the University of Oregon’s
most outstanding chapters. Our chapter was originally organized in
1915. A group of women were affiliated with a music honorary, which
was well respected on campus. Several women who were very active members
of their campus and of the honorary, decided they were looking for
more of a fraternal bond than that offered by the music honorary.
Within less than a year these women organized together and were approved
to start a Pi Beta Phi chapter at University of Oregon where they
carried on their already strong campus commitment to Greek Life.
Since these early
days of campus commitment our chapter has continued to strive to uphold
our early outstanding foundation. In more recent years we have been
honored by the college Panhellenic with several awards, including
Highest Member Grade Point Average for six years in a row, Outstanding
Leadership Development Program (’07) and Best Overall Membership
Plan (’07). We also have members frequently honored for their
commitment to academics, the Greek community, and their service to
our campus and surrounding communities. Pi Beta Phi has also been
awarded the Greek Leadership Cup for sororities by Greek Life. This
award recognizes the most outstanding chapter on campus on the basis
of community involvement, philanthropic support, campus leadership
and academics. Our members are very proud to have been awarded with
this honor for the second year in a row (’06-’07).
