Our
chapter’s philanthropy is Pie Social which supports the local
Eugene branch of Start Making a Reader Today (SMART). SMART is a non-profit
organization which pairs K-3rd grade students with reading mentors.
Every spring we open our house to the campus and community for our
Pie Social. The event features all-you-can-eat pie, a pie-eating contest,
a performance by the men’s a cappella group On The Rocks, and
everyone’s favorite: Pie-A-Pi-Phi! In 2007 we raised $4,000
to benefit SMART and help then in their cause for literacy!
“Please know
that I applaud your effort and deeply appreciate it. You have so much
to be proud of. You have helped bring the magic of SMART to many children.”
– Liz Degner, Area Manager SMART South Valley
