Preceptorships are an opportunity for pre-med students to be partnered with doctors in the Eugene area. These job-shadowing experiences are great ways for pre-med students to explore the hour-to-hour routine of a specific physician and see which area of medicine fits them best. Also, the program tries to offer a wide range of physician specialties in the hopes that it will allow students to experience the breadth of medicine, one doctor at a time. |

What is a preceptorship? |
|
The Asklepiads Preceptorship Program begins in Winter Term of every year. There is also a Preceptorship Program during the Spring Term, so you can apply for one or both terms! All you have to do is fill out this application, and return it to the Asklepiads Office, or give it to Verni at one of the General Meetings by the end of Fall Term 2009. You will be contacted near the end of Winter Break regarding your application. There will be an information session during week 1 of Winter Term, where Verni will provide guidelines and answer any questions. Download this application. |

When can I apply, and when does it begin? |
|
There are no restrictions on which student members can apply to this program. In the past years, however, we have received more applications than we have physicians available to accommodate students; if this continues to remain the case, student members who have stayed involved and contributed to the Asklepiads club will be considered first. (We do take attendance at general meetings, fundraisers and other club functions). Additionally, our preceptorship program of independent physicians intends to complement the PeaceHealth preceptorship program at RiverBend that we collaborate with. It is the goal of this program and our club in general to present opportunities for all students to be involved, so we may take PeaceHealth's requirements into consideration when considering priority for our independent program. An example of this might be that since the PeaceHealth program takes in only upperclassmen (juniors and seniors), then we would consider giving priority to our younger members (freshmen and sophomores) for this Asklepiads preceptorship program in order to attempt to give everyone the opportunity to shadow a physician. |
