    Intrinsic Value

    Membership is rewarding to the achiever in that recognition of excellenceleads to self-fulfillment and thus to self-realization. By recognizingthat what you do does make a difference, you are stimulated to higher productivity.Accomplishments are enjoyed more when shared with others. Furthermore,the contacts made through Psi Chi will be valuable throughout your educationaland professional careers.

    Extrinsic Value

    1. A membership certificate and card which give tangible evidence of membership.
    2. The references provided throughout one's lifetime (this service alone isworth the investment).
    3. The national organization provides programs, including national and regionalconventions held annually in conjunction with the psychological associations,research award competitions, and certificate recognition programs. Also,the Society publishes a quarterly Psi Chi Newsletter which helps to uniteand inform the members and to recognize their contributions and accomplishments.
    4. Eligible to submit research to Psi Chi National Headquarter, and be publishedin the Psi Chi's annual Journal.
    5. The experience gained by working with Psi Chi is excellent for buildingup a resume; it is difficult to attain that first managerial and creativeexperience.
    6. Psi Chi is a springboard for professional growth. Opportunities are madeavailable to the members for promoting their research, receiving nationaland international recognition, meeting and interacting with leaders intheir field, and meeting Psi Chi members of other chapters who also willbe future leaders.
    7. The United States government recognizes membership in Psi Chi as meetingone of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in the Federal service.

    Membership Requirements*

    1. Completion of at least 3 semesters or 5 quarters of the college course.
    2. Completion of 14 quarter hours of psychology.
    3. Registration for major or minor standing in psychology or for a programpsychological in nature which is equivalent to such standings.
    4. Undergraduates who are elected to PSI CHI mustrank in the upper 35% of their class in general scholarship.They must also demonstrate superior scholarship in psychology, earninga minimum GPA in psychology courses of 3.50. PSI CHI accepts the policyof the institution regarding grades.
    5. For graduates students, an average grade of "B" or better in all graduatecourses, including psychology.
    6. High standards of personal behavior.
    7. Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular meeting of thechapter.
    8. A minimum of 45 semester units (or equivalent) of college work must becompleted, with at least 12 of these units in psychology.
    9. A one-time fee of $45.00 entitles you to a lifetime membership in PSI CHIafter you have been initiated. $35.00 of this fee goes to the nationalheadquarters. $10.00 of this fee goes to the University of Oregon Chapterof PSI CHI.

    * The above national membership requirements are derived fromthe current PSI CHI Constitution and Bylaws, revised January 1994. Additionally,any chapter may establish minimum scholastic requirements that are higherthan the national minimum qualifications; however, service or attendancerequirements should not be added to membership eligibility standards.
