Psychology Major Requirements

University of Oregon Psychology Major Requirements
  • Need 44 Total Psychology Credit Hours
  • 36 Upper-Division Psychology Credit Hours (includes 16 at UO)
  • All courses, except electives, must be taken graded and passed with a C− or better.
  • Electives may be taken P/N and students must receive a P.
  • PSY 410 courses (except for Evolutionary Psychology) count toward elective credits only.
  • THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED COURSES MUST BE TAKEN GRADED
Level 1

(Each class equals 4 credits, taken graded C− or better; pre–requisites for Level 2 courses)
PSY 201 ____ and PSY 202 ____or 201 Honors/CS ____
WR 121 ____and WR 122 ____(or WR 123 ____)
MATH 111 ____or MATH 243 ____(recommended, butwill accept MATH 111 or higher)

Level 2

(Each class equals 4 credits, taken graded C− or better; pre–requisites for Level 3 courses)
 PSY 302 ____ (pre–req for 303) or substitute MATH 425, 426, 461, or 462
 and
 PSY 303 ____
Substitutions satisfy requirement but do not count as PSY credit.
These credits need to be completed before graduation (not part of any level) and taken graded (C− or better):

Note: Only 4 credits of PSY 409 will count toward the major requirements. LING 396 substitutes for PSY 440, but students will not be given psychology major credit for LING 396 if they also take PSY 440. Only PSY 410 Evoluntionary Psychology counts toward core course requirements. All other PSY 410 courses count as elective credits only.
