Academics
Congratulations for choosing the University of Oregon. The
primary reason for coming to the U of O is to obtain a high
quality education. At SAE, we take great pride in our academic
achievements. Since our return to campus in 1999, we have
earned a reputation as one of the leading fraternities academically,
socially, philanthropically, and numerically. Furthermore
our brothers have been active members in a wide variety
of University organizations. The scope of their participation
includes varsity athletes, honor society, Greek life, and
the ASUO student government just to name a few.
Within the fraternity, elder members offer tutoring assistance,
which is available to underclassmen. Many of these tutors
have already finished their major-elect courses and are
utilized as a valuable resource. They may also benefit
academically from taking courses with other brothers,
as well as the ability to utilize an extensive library
of past notes, books, and exams.
In conjunction with the Department of Health, Education,
and Welfare’s affirmation that “Fraternity
membership has been clearly associated with the persistence
to graduate”, The percentage of fraternity members
who continue to graduate is much higher than the overall
campus percentage.
SAE strongly encourages high academic standing. Our goal
is for every member to fulfill his potential through a
well-rounded and complete college experience.
Social
» Since our return to the University in Fall of 1999,
we have emerged as
a leader in social responsibility and frequency. Although
the University will mandate a dry greek system in Winter
of 2002, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been a substance free living
environment since 1999. We feel this will provide our chapter
with a significant advantage, facilitating the new policy.
Consequently, we have managed functions that range from
foam parties to formals to our Toga party coming up October
11th. Furthermore, social activity meets all University
regulations, which is necessary for endorsement.
In addition to these events, the house often takes road
trips to sporting events or other schools for some memorable
experiences. The social season concludes with our annual
and incredible Paddy Murphy Weekend, which pays tribute
to our graduating seniors and also celebrates the end of
the academic year.
At SAE, we also realize the importance of parental involvement.
We hold several annual events to encourage this participation,
such as parents' day, awards banquets, family barbecues,
and several others. As responsible brothers, we know how
to balance the fun with our academics.
Community Service
» Oregon beta is an organization compiled of over
70 men, granting us the opportunity to assist those who
are less fortunate in the surrounding area of Eugene. Community
service will challenge you to open your mind to the difficulties
that some face. At SAE, we realize that this service is
greatly needed, and every brother gives his absolute commitment.
Each year, we hold Halloween Haunted house with Chi Omega
Sorority, the neighbor of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. We also continuously
help organizations such as Easter Seals, Children’s
Miracle Network and other philanthropic organizations. One
of our creeds at Oregon Beta is to leave this place better
than we found it. Through community service we do just that!
Alumni
» A strong house is built by the support and guidance
of its alumni. Oregon Beta's alumni are an integral part
of everyday life. Their devotion to the house is unmatched.
Our alumni frequently come around the house just to see
how we’re doing and meet up with old friends. The
House puts on many alumni events geared to reunite brothers
and share the legacy that is Oregon Beta.
In addition to a physical presence, many alumni have
contributed significant amounts of monetary resources
which helped finance a $200k remodel in 1996, a renovated
kitchen & dining hall in 2000 and most recently, a
new flag pole.
