Etching

Etching is the process where a copper or Zinc plate (flat sheet of metal) is coated with a acid resistant substance. After the acid resistant substance has been applied where ever one wants a dark value or line, one removes the acid resistant material. The plate can be etched for the same amount of time or it can be stage bit to give different values in the prints. This plate was printed "A la poupe" meaning that multiple colors where placed on the plate before printing. A etching is printed in the same manner as an engraving. Here's another artists etchings.
