high desert museum
My internship at High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon was a great experience. My official title was public programs intern, though I had the opportunity to work and learn in departments throughout the museum. I learned how to blacksmith and press apples for cider, helped launch the new Web site, organize the annual fundraiser, and developed activity guides.
I learned new skills, was inspired by the staff and volunteers, and was able to develop and implement my own programming ideas. Programming surrounding a fly fishing photography exhibit titled Upstream was particularly successful and enjoyable. I also planned the annual harvest festival with 1000 visitors attending.
The most rewarding part of the experience was working with others who were dedicated to the natural environment and the cultural history of the region. I loved the energy that came from working out of doors and with such dedicated and professional staff and volunteers.
